Physiotherapy and acupuncture
Jennie Longbottom MSc MMEd BSC FCSP
Jennie is a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 40 years experience both in the NHS and private practice, combining a medical model of physiotherapy assessment and treatment with Western and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) acupuncture intervention.
The aim of adding acupuncture into physiotherapy management is to:
- Manage pain
- Induce relaxation and sleep
- Reduce anxiety
Traditional Chinese medicine involves an extensive assessment in order to diagnosis the underlying imbalance in the system. This involves understanding the family history, taking pulses and looking at tongues in order to assess the imbalance. This system of acupuncture is used for the treatment of:
- Complex pain presentation
- Systemic dysfunction such as:
- Migraine and Headaches
- Menopausal symptoms
- Pre menstrual tension
- Urinary incontinence
At times both physiotherapy and acupuncture will be used; at other times either physiotherapy or acupuncture will be used separately, depending upon the presenting symptoms and diagnosis.
